Do you have access to indoor space?

Yes! We use the Treehouse in the late Spring, Summer and Fall. When it closes for the season in late November, we use the Lodge as our learning space. In cases of extreme weather (e.g., lightning or dangerously cold temperatures), we’ll move learning indoors to the Lodge.

What bathrooms do you use?

We utilize the public bathrooms in the Lodge and are the only ones allowed access during school hours.

What's the teacher to student ratio?​

Our drop off class ratio is 1 teacher to 10 students, however there will always be 2 teachers.

Do you always meet at Citizen's Park?​

On snowy days, classes may be held at Langendorf Park to accommodate plowing schedules. Families will be notified in advance. On occasion, the early learning program may meet at another forest preserve or take a field trip for the day. This will be communicated to families well in advance.

How do I know if my child is ready for an outdoor program?​

They meet the age requirements and are able to stay with the group. Leaving the group is a major hazard that indicates your child may not be ready for a program without walls. Your child is either potty ready, able to change themselves, OR a caregiver will be within 15 minutes of the park to change their child upon request. Potty ready means they are able to use the bathroom with minimal help. We understand little ones may need help getting up on the toilet, which we can assist with. We also understand accidents may occur on occasion, so children must be able to change themselves or adults will be called to assist in the changing process. ​​

 

My child is not ready for a drop off program, can I stay?

Our early learning program is strictly a drop off program, caregivers are not allowed to stay, however we offer families opportunities to volunteer and have times where all families are invited to join us during the school day. Our enrichment classes are a good fit for children not ready for a drop off program.

Are you really outside in the Winter?

Yes! We make learning and playing outside a priority. There tend to be days where we are not able to safely be outside due to freezing temps or lightning.  Fortunately, we utilize the Lodge as our indoor learning space.

 

I'm interested in your program, but don't want to purchase the outdoor gear what should I do?

You can borrow seasonal gear from our lending closet! We have snow and rain gear of all different sizes to borrow. ​
